Leveraging Japan’s Railway Infrastructure to Empower
Startups

"TRIP" is one of the innovation clusters selected under the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's "TIB CATAPULT," a cluster creation project aimed at addressing global-level innovation challenges. Starting in the 2024 fiscal year, the project aims to realize sustainable and smart urban transportation by building partnerships between startups and the railway and transportation sectors, with an emphasis on shared assets and innovative technologies.

Furthermore, the cluster aims to enhance its collaborative framework by inviting new railway and transportation operators to join as core members and by recruiting corporate partners (supporting partners) to actively participate in its initiatives. Through these efforts, the cluster seeks to provide startups with a wide range of support, including fundraising, business matching, promotional opportunities, and fostering innovation in areas such as climate tech, nature tech, and the circular economy.

TRIP is a cluster where railway operators actively collaborate with startups to foster co-creation and innovation.

In addition to railway infrastructure, we aim to identify and support startups that leverage a diverse range of assets, including commercial facilities, real estate, tourism, and urban development. By utilizing these resources, TRIP helps startups grow and supports those with ambitions to expand from Tokyo to the rest of Japan and the world.

TIB CATAPULT promotes open innovation through collaboration among multiple business companies. We believe that this is an initiative that not only expands the growth potential of startups, but also fosters momentum to "support challengers in society as a whole" through recognition of their activities.
The impact of the collaboration between the railroad companies participating in "TRIP," which is expanding its network nationwide, and the startups, utilizing various assets, will be very significant. The impact of this collaboration will be very large.
Let's "Jump out into the world" by creating innovations originating from TRIP in Tokyo and Japan!

TRIP" is a new framework that aims to promote startup co-creation and social implementation of innovations by jumping over the barriers between operators and areas, and joining forces with other railroad operators.
In fact, although the regions and areas are different, as transportation infrastructure providers, the challenges each company faces and the world they are aiming for are very much the same.
I feel that "TRIP" has great social significance and potential in that it allows each company to share their challenges and visions with each other, while enabling innovation in a wider range of implementation fields.
By making maximum use of our abundant assets and points of contact with customers, which are unique to us as railroad operators that have been a part of people's daily lives for many years and have built the lives and lifestyles along our rail lines, we aim to create new value that will bring about significant change and impact to Tokyo, Japan, and society as a whole.

We recognize that railroads operate in different regions and have relatively similar operations and businesses, however small or large they may be.
Therefore, we thought that working with startups within TRIP would be relatively easy to expand horizontally, and that the prospect of meeting startups in Tokyo and meeting people in charge of the same at other railway companies would be very significant for the development of our new business, We are pleased to participate in this project!
We hope that by collaborating with startups with excellent products in Fukuoka, we can contribute to increasing the value of the city of Fukuoka, which in turn will lead to the growth of the startups and the revitalization of our group.
I think most of the horizontal development is done from Tokyo, but I hope we can achieve horizontal development from Fukuoka as well, and it would be great if we can reach a point where the railroad companies have really changed Japan with startup companies! It would be great if we could reach a point where the railway companies have really changed Japan with startup companies!
